📱 Car Scanner app – setup and tricks in Car Scanner ELM OBD2 (Car Scanner PRO) for iOS/Android
I show some tricks how to use Car Scanner ELM OBD2 app.

Car Scanner ELM OBD2 after install is a free full trial, you can see/test all options. After 15 connections options will be limited.
During trial period app shows ALL features. Paid PRO version will not add more functions/sensors than you see in free trial period!
After 15 connections free trial will end. Then you pay just once (circa 5 USD) for lifetime Car Scanner PRO, or continue with free version (many limitations and ads)
I used Torque Pro for many years, but this app seems better in many ways:
– many pre-loaded car profiles (extended sensors, custom PIDs)
– Car Scanner works out of the box, just select preloaded car profile and ready!
– basic is free, PRO (in-app purchase) is cheap, no subscription fees
– easier to set up than Torque PRO
– DTC error codes, emission tests, freeze frame, acceleration tests

– change factory settings in VW, Toyota, Renault, Hyundai, etc
– VW-coding and long-coding (no extra fee)
– custom setups for several cars (My cars menu)
– fuel consumption (precise only after calibration!)

– works with generic ELM327 Bluetooth and Wi-Fi adapters

Car Scanner is good alternative to Carly, EOBD Facile, Carista, FIXD, OBD Eleven, Torque PRO, etc.
Settings/Connection profile
First profile OBDII/EOBD shows only basic OBD sensors! Better find your vehicle model (or most similar engine/car). Try several profiles, each has 50-400 parameters, listed in Settings/Sensors (even without connecting to car). App has profiles for most car brands (VW, AUDI, TOYOTA, RENAULT, HYUNDAI, KIA, SKODA, OPEL, FORD, VOLVO, etc). You can create/import custom PIDs, like in Torque PRO. But this app cannot use relational pids.
Many diesel profiles show DPF soot, but not all profiles – check before buying PRO. Car Scanner cannot force service DPF regeneration (except some VW and Renault engines)
Which ELM327 adapter?
for Android – any Bluetooth 1, 2, 3, 4.0 BLE, or WiFI
for iPhone iOS – only Bluetooth 4.0 BLE or WiFi
I use iCar Vgate adapter – goes to sleep if unused for 30 minutes, can be left in diagnostic port
Wi-Fi ELM327 adapters should be avoided:
– selecting Wi-Fi will stop 4G/LTE on smartphone
– every time you need to manually find Elm327 WiFi
ELM327 Bluetooth
– at the same time you can connect smartphone-ELM327 (for Car Scanner) and smartphone-car for calls/music streaming (music gets lower bitrate)
– Bluetooth doesn’t interrupt mobile data LTE/4G on phone
HOW TO connect ELM327 ?
Pair phone with elm327 adapter BEFORE launching Car Scanner. Then in Settings/Adapter ELM327 select that elm327 (diagnostic port icon)
Do NOT choose your car’s Bluetooth – don’t select My VW, My Toyota, My Opel !

Don’t leave ELM327 in diagnostic port – it keeps modules awake and drains 12V battery. Or buy adapter with auto off (Vgate etc)

Car Scanner on Android Auto ?

Cons:
– some sensors show 0 or strange values
– many sensors not translated
– doesn’t work with USB cable
– only displayed sensors are recorded (All Sensors records ALL parameters, now you can select Dashboard pages to be always recorded)
