This video will show you how to reset the SERVICE light in the 1993, 1994, and 1995 Volvo 850 cars. A7-4-1-5-1
These cars have an OBD-1 diagnosis tool under the hood near the ECU box. The light comes on every 5,000 miles to remind you to have the oil changed.
*** This procedure only works with the VDO cluster. If you have the Yazaki cluster (tach goes to 8000 rpms) you will need to pull the faceplate plug and poke something through there to reset the reminder.
The 1996 – 1998 Volvo 850’s and S/V70’s have a maintenance light system that requires a special OBD-II scanner to reset the light, found at the dealer and/or a specialty independent Volvo repair shop. One can be found online for purchase for $70+ US dollars. Most people simply take the bulb out, it’s only an oil change reminder.

Thank you Robert, great work, love your channel! I just have one doubt, the symbol in my dashboard is different, it's in the same position (bottom right corner), but instead of saying"service" it shows the lambda logo. Is suppose it has the same meaning, is that right?
Robert, did you took the video out for reset engine light, I couldn’t find it anymore for my 1995 Volvo 850, I reset service light, the engine light came on, I took off the engine lights and I drove my car a few miles and the service light came on. Your videos very helpful, many thanks.
Hey Robert, I got the problem that sometimes the Service light comes on for a few minutes (Most of the time cold starts for some weird reason) and then turns off. A guy in our town thats knows 850 quite well, couldn't find anything on his OBD scanner… Maybe somewhere in that module a loose connection or dirt or should I just reset it, when the light is on? The car is a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo
Thank you for this. I have been through a few odd things with this car (think checking transmission fluid!), and I’ve been thinking about selling. Now that I have been through this, I am solid on that choice. I can’t imagine what I would have to do for a complicated issue!
Hi Robert! I really appreciate your videos on the VOLVO 850! I am the owner of a 1994 Volvo 850. After having the vehicle serviced, at a non-Volvo dealer, I had wondered how to stop the "Service" light, remaining on the dash! Your video gave me the "step by step" instructions to correct it! Thank you!!
I have an easier way . Take dashpad off ! Remove cluster out . Remove service light bulb out of cluster. Put electrical tape were bulb was. Reinstall cluster and reinstall dashpad. This is the Italian way. No busting balls every 5,000 miles.
That's alot of work.. The Italian way of doing it ! is . Watch Roberts video on how to remove dash pad and instrument cluster. Remove service light bulb and put some black electrical tape on the bulb hole. And remove the LAMBADA light as well while your at it. You all do what you want . But that's what I did . I don't need those lights to break my COGLIONI all the time.
Hey Robert. I have a 95 Volvo 960. I replaced the TCP sensors and forgot to reconnect the vacuum hose from the intake. The car now has the check engine light on. How do I reset it. Thank you in advance for your help.
